Welcome to GGU | Getting Started
Your Guide to Getting Started in GGU
Bringing back the golden days, one server at a time.

Welcome to Golden Gamers United!

We're excited to have you as part of the community.

GGU is a multi-game community built around playing together, meeting new people, supporting our Game Teams, and creating the kind of gaming community people actually want to come back to.

This guide covers the basics of being a GGU Member, where to find things, how to get involved, and who to contact when you need help.

Your First Steps

New Member Checklist
  1. Make sure your GGU Member roles are showing correctly.
Your Forum and Discord accounts should reflect your new Member status. If you use TeamSpeak, your TeamSpeak role may also need to be assigned.
  2. Introduce yourself.
Stop by the Introductions section of the Forums and tell the community a little about yourself, what you play, and how you found GGU.
  3. Join the conversation.
Check out the GGU Discord, Game Team channels, Forums, and community discussions.
  4. Find a server.
Browse the GGU server network and jump into anything that looks interesting.
  5. Explore our Game Teams.
If you play one of the games GGU actively supports, check out its section of the community and get involved.
  6. Ask questions.
You are not expected to know where everything is immediately. Members of Leadership are available if you need help.

GGU at a Glance

Golden Gamers United has been building and hosting gaming communities since 2016.

GGU operates across multiple games, community platforms, Game Teams, events, development projects, and other community activities.

You do not need to stay within the game that originally brought you here.

One Community:
If another GGU game, event, server, or group catches your interest, jump in. Membership is community-wide rather than limited to a single game.

Where to Find GGU

Community Platforms

GGU Website

The main GGU website is the central starting point for community information, news, events, server activity, and other resources.

https://gguclan.com/

Forums

The Forums contain community announcements, guides, Game Team sections, applications, discussions, and long-term community information.

https://gguclan.com/forums/

Discord

Discord is where much of GGU's day-to-day conversation takes place. Game Teams, announcements, events, support, and general community activity can all be found there.

https://discord.gg/ggu

Game Servers

GGU maintains a live server directory showing the community's current servers and activity.

https://gguclan.com/servers/

TeamSpeak

GGU also operates a TeamSpeak server for members and community voice communication.

If you need help connecting or getting your Member role assigned, contact Leadership.

Your Member Role

Becoming a GGU Member means you are officially part of the Golden Gamers United community.

Membership is more than a Discord role or Forum group. Members are encouraged to participate, meet people, join games and events, and help create a welcoming community.

As a Member, you may receive:

  • GGU Member recognition on supported community platforms.
  • Access to Member-related community areas where applicable.
  • Eligibility for additional community roles.
  • Opportunities to participate in Game Teams and other GGU groups.
  • Eligibility to pursue Moderator or other Leadership positions when openings are available and requirements are met.
  • Access to community events, projects, and other Member activities.

Community Ranks & Leadership

You will see a variety of ranks, roles, and colors across GGU.

Some members may also hold Game Team, Staff, Development, Design, Social Media, or other Leadership positions.

The general Game Team Leadership structure is:

  • Moderator - Helps enforce rules and moderate GGU game servers.
  • Staff - Supports Moderators and helps manage Game Team server operations.
  • Manager - Leads an individual Game Team or Department.

GGU also has higher Leadership positions that help oversee multiple areas of the community.

Need Help?
You do not need to memorize the Leadership structure. If you contact the wrong person, we can help direct you to whoever handles the issue.

Game Teams

Game Teams are the groups responsible for supporting specific games within GGU.

Depending on the game, a Game Team may:

  • Operate dedicated game servers.
  • Maintain game-specific rules and guides.
  • Run events.
  • Support guilds, clans, or other in-game groups.
  • Maintain Moderators and Server Leadership.
  • Test new server content.
  • Help players get involved with that part of GGU.

You are encouraged to participate in as many areas of the community as interest you.

Finding a Game Server

The GGU Server Network page provides a live list of available servers:

https://gguclan.com/servers/

The server directory can show information such as:

  • Game or server type.
  • Server name.
  • Current player population.
  • Maximum player capacity.
  • Current map where supported.
  • Online or offline status.

The server network changes as GGU launches, updates, retires, or experiments with different servers, so the live server list should be used instead of relying on an old static list.

GGU Events

GGU hosts community activities across supported games and platforms.

Events may include:

  • Game nights.
  • Tournaments.
  • Server events.
  • Guild events.
  • Community celebrations.
  • Launch events.
  • Special seasonal activities.

Watch Discord, the Forums, and the GGU website for upcoming events.

Optional GGU Tag

Members may use the optional GGU community tag in games that allow it:

★ GGU ★

The tag is optional unless a particular Game Team has a separate requirement.

If you choose to represent GGU publicly, remember that your behavior may be associated with the community.

Community Expectations

GGU is meant to be a place people enjoy spending time in.

As a Member:

  • Treat other community members with respect.
  • Follow the rules of the platforms and servers you use.
  • Avoid intentionally creating unnecessary drama.
  • Do not harass or target other members.
  • Respect Staff and moderation decisions while using the proper process to raise concerns.
  • Help new players and members when you can.
  • Remember that disagreements can normally be handled without becoming personal.
GGU Culture:
Play together, help one another, and leave the community better than you found it.

Activity & Staying Involved

Members are encouraged to remain reasonably involved with GGU.

Activity does not mean you need to be online every day.

There are many ways to stay involved:

  • Play on GGU servers.
  • Talk with people in Discord.
  • Participate in Forum discussions.
  • Attend community or Game Team events.
  • Participate in a GGU guild or in-game group.
  • Help other players.
  • Contribute to community projects.

Extended inactivity may affect membership standing according to current GGU activity policies.

If you know you will be away for an extended period, use the applicable Leave of Absence process or notify Leadership where appropriate.

Real Life Comes First:
If you need time away, take it. Letting Leadership know about an extended absence simply helps us understand that you intend to return.

Getting More Involved

Membership is only the beginning if you want to become more involved with GGU.

Opportunities may exist within:

  • Game Teams.
  • Game Server Moderation.
  • Development.
  • Graphics & Design.
  • Server & Map Design.
  • Social Media.
  • Events.
  • Guild Leadership or game-specific groups.
  • Community projects.

Openings and requirements may vary depending on the Team or Department.

If something interests you, talk to the appropriate Manager or Leadership member.

Interested in Becoming a Moderator?

GGU Game Teams may recruit Moderators to help maintain their servers.

Moderators are expected to:

  • Understand the rules of their Game Team.
  • Remain reasonably active.
  • Help players.
  • Handle rule enforcement fairly.
  • Communicate with Server Leadership.
  • Represent GGU appropriately.

Moderator openings and application procedures are handled by the applicable Game Team.

Forums & Guides

The GGU Forums are more than a discussion board. They are also where many permanent community resources are maintained.

You may find:

  • Game guides.
  • Community announcements.
  • Game Team information.
  • Rules and policies.
  • Applications.
  • Event information.
  • Technical guides.
  • Community history.

If you are looking for information that should remain useful longer than a Discord conversation, the Forums are a good place to check.

Discord

Discord is one of the main places to keep up with day-to-day GGU activity.

Depending on your roles, you may see:

  • General community channels.
  • Game-specific channels.
  • Game Team announcements.
  • Events.
  • Support areas.
  • Voice channels.
  • Guild or group-specific areas.

If you believe you are missing channels you should have access to, contact Leadership so your roles can be checked.

TeamSpeak

TeamSpeak remains available as another GGU voice platform.

Member and Game Team roles may be assigned through TeamSpeak Server Groups.

If you use TeamSpeak and your roles are missing, contact an authorized member of Leadership rather than attempting to recreate or change permissions yourself.

Need Help?

If you have a question or problem, there are several ways to get help.

  • Ask in the appropriate Discord support or Game Team area.
  • Contact a Moderator for routine game-server questions.
  • Contact Staff for more involved Game Team issues.
  • Contact a Manager when the issue involves a Team or Department.
  • Use the Forums when the issue is better suited to a longer discussion or formal process.

If you are not sure who handles something, ask. You do not need to understand the entire GGU Leadership structure to get assistance.

Reporting a Problem

If you experience a problem with another player, Member, Moderator, or member of Leadership:

  1. Keep relevant screenshots, videos, logs, or other evidence.
  2. Avoid escalating the situation publicly.
  3. Contact the appropriate Leadership member or use the applicable report process.
  4. Explain what happened clearly and provide the available evidence.

If your concern involves the person you would normally report to, contact someone higher in the Leadership structure.

Account Security

Protecting your community accounts helps protect both you and GGU.

  • Use a unique password for your accounts.
  • Enable two-factor authentication where available.
  • Never give another person your password or authentication codes.
  • Be cautious of unexpected links or files.
  • Do not log into GGU-related services through suspicious third-party pages.
  • Report suspicious messages claiming to be from GGU Staff.
